About Us

Potentia offers a safe and nurturing environment where students can be encouraged to reach their full potential.

Potentia Academy is a private, not-for-profit school dedicated to serving students in grades 5 through 12 with unique learning needs. In addition to providing a high-quality education, Potentia offers a safe and nurturing environment where students can be encouraged to reach their full potential.

When students first come to our school, they are typically two or three years behind their age-appropriate grade level, particularly in mathematics and English language arts. Using specialized curricula designed to address such deficiencies, our highly qualified and caring teachers work to bring each student up to grade level.

At Potentia, a typical class consists of just 10 to 12 students. Our commitment to maintaining small to moderate class sizes ensures that each student receives the attention they need to succeed. We are proud to report that 88 percent of our students graduate with a standard high school diploma at the end of their time with us. And, since 2017, two-thirds of our graduates have continued on to college.

Principal’s Welcome

If I could sum it up what Potentia Academy is in a nutshell, I would say it is a place where students with special learning needs can reach their full learning potential. I know how important that is as both a parent and an educator.

The best way to get to know us and determine whether our school is the right fit for your child, is to arrange an appointment to visit our campus. You will be able to meet our teachers, inspect our curriculum, and even sit in on a class. In the meantime, I encourage you to explore our web pages to learn more about who we are and what our school is all about.

If you have any questions or want more information, please feel free to call us at 561-433-5557.

Sincerely,

Janice Meeks, Principal

Guiding Principles

At Potentia Academy, we believe

  • Every student has the right to reach his or her full learning potential.
  • Every student should be challenged to reach that full learning potential by teachers and parents.
  • Every student’s education plan should meet her or his individual learning needs.
  • The goal of education should not be the mere accumulation of facts, but the inculcation the ability to think for oneself, communicate effectively with others, contribute to the society in which one lives, and lead a fulfilling, productive, and independent life.
  • An excellent education is based on the time-tested principles of human experience and evidence-based research, not recent, unproven fads and trends.
  • Every student deserves to be treated with dignity and respect.
  • Every student deserves a physically and emotionally safe learning environment.

Graduate Spotlight

After experiencing many challenges, including bullying, at another school, Mason Martinez (pictured top center) found Potentia Academy, where we are committed to small class sizes, a safe and nurturing environment and specialized curricula taught by a team of highly qualified and caring teachers.

As a result, Mason excelled academically and became valedictorian of his graduating class. He is now majoring in Communications and Media at Lynn University.

“When I graduate, I want to get involved in broadcasting,” he said. “I feel that Potentia Academy provided me with the background required to succeed in my college education and future career.”

Mason… We are so proud of you!
